I’ve been itching to get up there lately. It’s been too long.

Indeed. Why is that waterfall so brown though?

I think it’s a product of decaying vegetation that leach tannins into the water, or its poop.

The UP basically got it’s boom from massive iron ore deposits. As far as I know it’s from that iron leaching into the water.

Actually, I’m pretty sure it’s from iron ore deposits.

Joking as I was, I’ve been to Tahquamenon Falls, but not since I was... 12 I think? long time ago. My great aunt used to run a motel in Mackinaw City, so we stayed up there one summer and did a tour of the northern lower and da UP, eh?

Oh hey, Tahquamenon Falls! I stopped by there on the way to LSPR last year! It was an interesting contrast because I’d spent the previous day at Niagara Falls

Yep, it’s tannins from decaying plant matter that end up in the river.

Nope, it’s tannins like Highlander said.

What Highlander said. Vegetation along the river bank releases tannins into the water and turn it brown.

Man, I haven’t been up there since I was... 8, I think. I recall seeing the falls, and going to the sand dunes too. I distinctly remember climbing up a long sandy slope, and it taking so long that it started to rain before I got to the top.

I think my folks still have the pictures from that trip; best part was when a hell of a thunderstorm rolled in while we were taking the ferry back from the island.
